Junior Davis Piling Up Rushing Yards

After a strong sophomore year, Discovery’s junior tailback Jacob Davis has burst onto the scenes this fall and is currently the #8 rusher in the state with 561 yards. Last week, he piled up 200 yards against Lakeside-DeKalb, but it was one specific play that caught our eye.

Discovery was lined up at midfield and did a quick handoff to the 2023 running back, who quickly went accelerating up the middle. The defenders collapsed, so Davis bounced out to the right side of the field leaving a slew of defenders jumbled up, but still, one Lakeside defender persisted. Davis met his opponent with a staggering stiff arm that sent the defender to the turf, and then he went accelerating down the sideline led by a caravan of blockers for an explosive score.

Davis ended up making the #2 play of the week in the Recruit Georgia Top 10. The start of the season has been fantastic for Davis, and he credits to the work he put in this offseason.

“What I have improved on is my ball carrying vision, footwork, and also my explosiveness,” Davis said.

Even though he is currently one of the state’s leading rushers, Davis has not seen a major boost to his recruitment.

“(My) recruitment hasn’t really been good so far. I haven’t got to talk to many coaches yet but I hope it gets better and I have the opportunity to communicate with more coaches and take my talents to the next level.”

At the moment, the only school to be in contact is Memphis, but it’s still very early in the recruiting process, and typically, it takes time for emerging recruits to grab the attention of college programs. Davis has no visits planned at the moment but says that he is looking forward to it.

The 2023 running back stands 5’9″ and nearly 200 lbs; he has a compact frame, strong leg drive, and good acceleration into the open field. Davis is very tough to bring down, similar to the pro running back he models his game after.

“I grew up watching Marshawn Lynch and he was always my inspiration to play running back. I love his ability to run with power and break tackles,” the junior said.

Davis has added some excitement into the backfield at Discovery and is putting on a show each Friday night for the program. We asked what he liked most playing on Friday nights.

“I just love the game of football. Football saved me from a lot of hard times in life and nothing excites me more than to suit up and play the game that I love! I thank god every day that he gives me the opportunity to get on the field and display my talents.”

Tonight Davis and the Discovery Titans take on Berkmar, which should be another good matchup for the program that will most likely yield strong offensive production similar to last week’s 45 points outburst against Lakeside. Davis should figure to be a big part of that equation, so be sure to check back on @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter to see his latest highlights and the rest of the athletes around the state.
