Five Offers in May for Hernandez

Korey Hernandez, a new safety transfer to Cedar Grove, has had an outstanding start this May. The hard-hitting safety has been offered by Tulane, Presbyterian, Charleston Southern, South Florida, Furman, Kent State and Southern Miss during this month thus far.

The offers for Hernandez (5’11” 165) might not be over just yet. From watching his film the last two seasons, Hernandez has outstanding instincts when closing in on the ball carrier. He flows to the ball from his safety spot naturally and has a fluid back pedal (4.2 shuttle) when in coverage.

Hernandez’s best attribute by far is his penchant for the big hit. The thumping safety routinely brings the boom to players down the middle of the field. That physicality gives him the ability guard the tight end but he is also quick enough to cover the slot receiver.

Last season at Southwest-Dekalb he also played on the offensive side of the ball. Our staff was surprised at how good Hernandez looked at the wide receiver position, so much so, that he could also play there at the next level. At the end of the day, we think his talents are best suited on the defensive side of the ball but a college coaching staff might think differently.
