Blessed Trinity’s Bishop Dameron has looked spectacular spearheading one of the GHSA’s best defenses this season. The senior has 58 total tackles this year, 2 sacks, 3 tackles for a loss, an interception, and a blocked punt.
Dameron has been all over the place. For two games in September, Dameron had 15 tackles in a game; the most recent was Week 6 against Marist, where he helped the Titans to a 17-14 win. The massive 5A matchup cemented Blessed Trinity as one of the best teams in the whole classification, and Dameron’s performance against the traditional run-heavy option team was a triumph.
“It has been an exciting time, and I have enjoyed playing the game with my teammates. Couldn’t have asked for a better start to my senior season; we are 5-0. My plan from here is to continue to put in the work,” Dameron said.
The senior was named Player of the Week on the website, edging out Swainsboro’s Kyle Johnson with a late voting surge. Clearly, the Blessed Trinity community wants to see the senior succeed, and after all of the hard work Dameron has invested over the last 12 months, the midseason performance is a realization.
“I have improved physically from hard work in the offseason. I have improved mentally by becoming more of a student of the game. I have also improved in being a leader on my team,” Dameron said.
Dameron does look quicker this season, rotating his hips over and showing good awareness while in coverage, even grabbing a diving interception in Week 1 against Decatur. But stopping the run is Dameron’s bread and butter. The powerful 6’2″, 220-pound linebacker fills the hole like a bucket of water, stopping the ball carrier at the line of scrimmage.
On the recruiting front, the senior said that Newberry, UVA-Wise, and VMI are contacting him the most, but stated, “My recruitment is wide open.”
Dameron has visits planned with the aforementioned schools, but nothing else is set in stone. To some extent, the senior is focused on the season, where finishing off with a state championship is the ideal outcome.
“My goals are to continue to work and get better, have a 100+ tackle senior season, surpassing the 95 total I had last year, help my team win a State Championship, and play at the next level,” the senior remarked.
No doubt, hard-hitting linebacker out of Blessed Trinity has a full plate. The scope of the season has created a championship opportunity, but that means it is time to eat. If he continues this level of production, an All-State selection should be in store, with more accolades as well, so be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter/X to follow Dameron’s story and players across the state.
