Birdsong is App State Bound

App State’s 2018 recruiting class added another Peach State star with the commitment of Justin Birdsong out of Stephenson high school. The versatile defensive back has been considered one of the top players at his HS the last few years, and after a full offseason of taking visits all across the country, he settled in on the Mountaineers as his future college destination.

The 2018 DB burst onto the recruiting scene shortly after our 2018 position rankings were released in early February. Navy became the first school to offer back on February 18th, and the offers did not stop for the rest of the offseason.

App State beat out some tough competition including Power 5 schools like Illinois, Minnesota, Kansas State, and Iowa State, but ultimately it was the staff’s long term commitment to the 2018 defensive back that garnered his commitment. The Mountaineer’s staff offered Justin on March 24th, making them his 4th offer at the time, and the first from a local FBS schools, as well. He visited a few weekends back with his cousin Deonta Bembry, where he got to see the facilities up close, and spend more time with the coaching staff.

No doubt about it, Birdsong is a tremendous pick up for App State, and the highest rated player they have committed from the state of Georgia according to our latest rankings. He is a true ballhawk, and just seems to have an elite feel tracking the pass, and making a play on the ball. He is also a standout in track and field, winning region at the hurdles and competing in the state championship.

Birdsong is the 13th commit for App State and 5th from the state of Georgia. Heading into his senior year his Stephenson squad is expected to make a deep run into the state playoffs and contend for a state title.
