Big Offseason Plans for Rising Calhoun Senior

College coaches from around the country should be familiar with Calhoun High School. Year in, and year out, they produce players who competitively play college football at the next level. Rising senior Noah Davenport is part of the next crop of Yellow Jackets primed for success.

To some college coaches, Davenport is a new name. For the last few season’s, Noah has played behind an experience senior laden offensive line. He won the “Hog” of the week award during last season, which goes to the most outstanding offensive lineman performance in a game, but that is the extent of his superlatives.

Noah DavenportWe spoke with Noah’s father (Billy) about his plans during the offseason and the state of his recruitment.

Offseason goals: “Continue to get bigger, stronger, and faster, increase his speed and agility performance. To become more of a student in technique with his hands, feet, and body. To learn the game of football more in depth! Becoming a student of film, snap counts, how offense and defenses work.”

The young offensive lineman (6’3″ 270-pounds) has a desire to get better at the game and plans to camp at the “National Playmakers Academy Lineman U Showcase OL/DL Feb. 21 at Tennessee State in Nashville, VTO Combine February 27th Atlanta, NIKE SPARQ March 19th, NUC South Showcase Tri-Cities High & Mercer Team Camp with Calhoun June 20-22.”

For college camps, he hopes to attend Vanderbilt, Samford, UTC, App State, Shorter and The Citadel – if his schedule permits.

Only two schools have expressed interest in getting the talented offensive lineman to their JR days. Both Rhodes College and Cornell want to see the student athlete in person.

The powerfully built offensive lineman believes “that his speed matched with his body strength allows him to compete assignments, stay on blocks and get the needed upfront penetration on the defensive side of the ball to free up his linebacker core to make tackles or get it himself” is his biggest strength.

Two areas he is focusing on improving is not over pursuing the play and increasing his bench press.

Loyalty is a key concept for the team-oriented lineman. He is loyal to his team members, who work and go through the trenches with him on a daily basis. That loyalty is exemplified on film, where you see Noah put all his effort to fulfill his role in the scheme.

This is a big year for the rising senior. He will be receiving more playing time than ever before, and could really catch the eye of a lot of colleges.

So far Shorter, Cornell, Rhodes, Whitworth, Northern Arizona, NDSU, Hillsdale College & Penn are expressing the most interest in the class of 2017 recruit.

A lot could change over the next few months for the Calhoun offensive guard, so stay tuned to Recruit Georgia for his latest updates.
