Askew Leading the State in Rushing

Simeon Askew currently leads the entire state of Georgia in rushing yards with 1177 on the season over 6 games. Not only is the senior out of Houston County leading the state in rushing yards, but also leads with 164 carries and his 196.2 yards per game is also 2nd in the state.

It has been a hallmark year for Askew, who despite having great stats during the 2021 season is still looking to gain recruiting traction with college programs. Over the weekend, Harding University became the first scholarship offer for Askew.

The scholarship comes off the heels of a 216 rushing yard performance against one of the better teams in 7A in Newton. Askew big performance led his team to a 20-13 win.

Askew’s emergence this year shows a marked progression from 2020 where he ran for 413 yards and a 5.3 average per carry. When asked about his improvement, Askew responded, “Weight room, most of my yards come from yards after contact, and I feel like my vision has improved as well.”

Roll through his senior film and you see the 210 lbs. power back rip off big chunks of yardage and driving bodies forward for extra yardage. Askew has been running with a purpose and simply refuses to go down on the initial contact.

The 2022 recruit sports a 3.7 GPA, and that’s consistent since he was a freshman at Houston County. What you get in a player like Askew is a power-back who plays with a fiery disposition, but also a good student-athlete that will build on the foundation of not just your locker room, but also the very campus he goes to.

A few more schools have come in contact with Askew since with local programs like Berry and West Georgia making contact. Being the state’s leading rusher there is certainly more to develop with his recruitment, so be sure to check out his Recruit Georgia profile and follow us on Twitter to hear the latest on the senior and many more athletes across the state of Georgia.
