Alpharetta’s McWhorter Hits Harder

Alpharetta senior Trent McWhorter is a multi-year starter that has produced well over the years. The senior linebacker has 75 total tackles and 7 tackles for a loss on top of an interception and two forced fumbles.

One of those tackles for a loss caught our eye in Week 11 when the senior jolted through the gaps and pummeled the running back in bone-crushing fashion. The senior has been making gut-busting tackles all season long; 2023 has been good for the 6’1″ 215 lbs. linebacker.

“The senior year I’ve had has honestly been great. I feel like I have accomplished everything I’ve wanted to accomplish. As a team I feel like my team has played well and worked extremely hard to get where we are at right now,” McWhorter said.

For most of the season, Alpharetta has been on the bubble of our 6A rankings. They have played one of the toughest schedules in all of 6A and tonight’s game against Roswell creates a potential opportunity for a three-way tie for the region title game.

We aren’t smart enough to know the playoff implications, but it certainly creates some added drama for tonight’s big matchup. These types of games can have a big impact on a player’s recruitment, especially a senior struggling to gain traction late in the process.

“I don’t have that many colleges looking at me right now. I haven’t heard from any at least. I’ve visited Tennessee State, Morehouse College, and Berry College,” McWhorter said.

Interestingly, we have graded the senior out to attract both FCS and DII interest. We have always liked his good size and instincts in reading the play. McWhorter has always shown good fundamentals getting good depth in pass coverage and having a keen eye for reading a run play.

The Alpharetta linebacker continues to improve each season we have watched. His fundamentals have always been the bedrock of his game, but we are certainly impressed by the added explosiveness with his tackles senior year.
