Lovejoy running back Zion Custis has had an outstanding start to the year, averaging 123 yards rushing per game, and is currently leading Class 6A in total rushing with 739 yards, 80 more than his nearest competitor. The junior back has been grinding out tough yards against very hard-hitting defenses the last few weeks, and has his Lovejoy team is on a two-game winning streak.

Zion CustisHow did the junior get to the top of Class 6A in rushing? Well, the 2018 back lived in the weight room in the offseason and packed on almost 15 pounds to his 5’7″ frame. The hard work has made a difference, and in just six games this season, Custis is knocking on the door of last year’s season totals.

We talked with Custis, who was recently rated a 3-star, to hear about how his recruitment is going during his breakout season.

“I have already been to the Ole Miss vs Georgia game last week. I plan to visit South Carolina, Miss State, Georgia, and Miami in the near future.”

Lovejoy is now 3-3 on the season and suffered some very tough losses early in the season, including a 21-20 game versus Stockbridge (the No. 1 team in the Class 5A Power Rankings) despite Custis’ impressive showing—you should absolutely watch individual film from that game.

Custis spoke about how he would like to finish off his junior year. “I would like to finish the season strong with a big playoff run that hopefully leads my team to the Dome!” He continued, “Also being one of Georgia’s top 2018 prospects, definitely one of the best or the best RB in the state!”

Lovejoy has four more games this year against Mt. Zion, Tucker, MLK and Jonesboro. At their current level of play, Custis and his teammates should finish strong, making the playoffs. The Wildcats have proven they can play with anyone in the state, and once they get into the playoffs, anything can happen.

We expect Custis to have his biggest games of the year against these upcoming opponents, so stay tuned to @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter to hear the latest on the star running back.
