Zanders is our Player of the Week

Friday is already here, so excuse our late recap of Jabari Zanders’ great performance from last Friday against Wheeler County. With the team down 29-13 and only 5 minutes left in the game, Telfair County was able to pull off the amazing comebacker with Zanders scoring the go-ahead touchdown with 35 seconds remaining.

The junior totaled 300 yards of offense on the night and earned Player of the Week honors on the website. It has been a remarkable season for the junior, who just a few months back didn’t even know he would be the starting QB, let alone leading the program to a 7-0 start and one of four teams still undefeated in Class A DII.

Zanders has been a dynamo on the field creating on the fly at QB. The 6’1″ 170 lbs. athlete has been pretty impressive throwing the football but where he is the most dangerous is running. He gets upfield in a hurry showing FBS caliber acceleration into his top gear.

Zanders has been really impressive in letting the defense come to him and not forcing the issue, as he often defers down to shorter routes. What we like the most is his impressive straight-line speed; that kind of dynamic playmaking is what P5 programs are looking for.

Zanders has the team humming right now and tonight’s game against Dooly County will be their biggest test of the season. No doubt, that matchup will be one of the top of the entire weekend with the Region Championship hanging on the line, so be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter/X to hear the latest on Telfair County’s explosive junior and everything else high school football in Georgia.
