The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets found a complete sleeper down in South Georgia with the commitment of Tariq Carpenter from Long County. The All-State selection at defensive back announced his official commitment to Georgia Tech this weekend during his official visit to Atlanta:

Carpenter was a longtime commit for Central Florida, but after receiving an offer to play for a Power 5 school, it was just too good to pass up. We asked the hard-hitting safety what it feels like to be done with the recruiting process.

“It feels great to be done, it’s definitely a long process. It could be either stressful or fun, it all depends on how you make it,” an exuberant Carpenter said.

Being a high school student athlete and going through a high school recruiting process can take its toll, so we asked Carpenter if he had any advice to offer to the younger prospects: “Just enjoy the process, pray, and don’t lose focus. It could be taken from you any day.”

For Carpenter, his focus and dedication to his craft was rewarded with an opportunity to play in the ACC. Miami was also recruiting him, and he took an official visit the weekend prior, but his connection with area recruiter Lamar Owens proved to be beneficial for the Jackets.

Carpenter is the 22nd commit for Georgia Tech in the Class of ’17 and is the 11th player from the state of Georgia.
