Woodland’s Shakur Brown: No Longer a Sleeper

Bursting onto the recruiting scene this spring is Woodland (Stockbridge) rising-senior cornerback Shakur Brown. The Class of ’17 prospect is our most recent Play of the Day winner (MORE).

Brown’s winning play showcased all the skills of a dynamic playmaking cornerback. The athletic corner made a remarkable one-handed grab on the 5-yard line, but that was just the beginning. Brown sped down the sideline, then at midfield he went into spin cycle, eluding all would-be tacklers—he then coasted the rest of the way for a 95-yard interception return.

We spoke with the budding prospect about where he plans to visit this summer. “I plan to visit West Virginia & South Carolina & Pen State, Duke, and North Carolina with Yusuf Corker.”

Corker and Brown might be the best CB duo in the state and are working out tirelessly this offseason.

“I am improving on being a lock down corner with Yusuf Corker’s help,” Brown said. Of note: Corker is a heavily recruited prospect with offers from South Carolina, Tennessee, Duke, Auburn and other Power 5s.

Brown’s recruitment has only heated up in the last 40 days. So far, he has offers from Marshall, Purdue, Georgia Southern, Western Kentucky, Tennessee Tech and West Virginia (most recent). He said no school stands out at this time and everyone is showing him the same interest.

Brown looks very promising on film. He is an explosive athlete with a 38″ vertical jump, and it’s evident on film.

Brown did not start at CB until the final four games last season and had four interceptions during that span. He uses his elite quickness to jump routes and looks like an ideal Power 5 coverage cornerback.

The Woodland defensive prospect has outlined a few goals for this upcoming season: “My goals this year is an interception every game, also to break school records & take my team to the state championship.”
