Week 2 Receiving Leaders

Here are some of the top receiving leaders in the GHSA through Week 2 with their Hudl film included, if possible.

Jaylen Elder – Morgan Co., SR

Elder has been a reliable target, accumulating 330 receiving yards over two games, with an average of 165.0 yards per game. He has caught 14 passes, averaging an impressive 23.57 yards per catch. Elder has scored 2 touchdowns, with his longest reception being 57 yards, showcasing his big-play ability. Elder’s speed and ability to stretch the field have been huge for Morgan County. Even playing way off, the senior just burns the defense. There is a reason why he is a state leader in receiving yards, and is a hidden gem.

Cody Bryan – Heritage-Catoosa, JR

Bryan has shown his explosiveness, racking up 295 receiving yards and averaging 147.5 yards per game. He has 14 receptions, averaging 21.07 yards per catch. Bryan has found the end zone 3 times, with his longest reception being 90 yards, indicating his deep-threat potential. Bryan can do-it-all on the field. He is a special teams dynamo returning kicks, and on defense, he can make impact plays like in Week 1, where he ripped the ball out of the receiver’s hands and returned it for a touchdown.

Kendall Sims – Schley Co, SR

Sims has been a consistent performer, accumulating 289 receiving yards, and averaging 144.5 yards per game. He has caught 19 passes, averaging 15.21 yards per catch. Sims has scored 4 touchdowns, with his longest reception being 80 yards. Sims’ versatility and impact have been great for Schley County. He is a natural in the open field making cuts on a dime, leaving defenders sliding to the turf.

Travis Smith Jr. – Westlake, SR

Smith Jr. has shown his ability to stretch the field, recording 261 receiving yards, with an average of 130.5 yards per game. He has caught 12 passes, averaging 21.75 yards per catch. Smith Jr. has scored 2 touchdowns, highlighting his impact on the Westlake offense. Honestly, I’m not even sure the AI generated the right stats for Smith, but what he has done a great job in the early season playing like ‘Baby Megatron.’

Colby Alexander – Archer, SR

Alexander has been a steady presence in the Archer offense, with 243 receiving yards, averaging 121.5 yards per game. He has caught 13 passes, averaging 18.69 yards per catch. Alexander has scored 1 touchdown. Early SR film shows his elite track speed blowing by the defense. Alexander has long had Ivy League interest, UPenn offered earlier this month, but a strong senior campaign could open up a lot of options.

DJ Avery – Chattahoochee, SR

Avery has been a consistent target, recording 226 receiving yards, averaging 113.0 yards per game. He has caught 13 passes, averaging 17.38 yards per catch. Avery has scored 3 touchdowns, and is also capable of making an electrifying play on special teams or defense. The All-State athlete is someone we expect to dominate this fall.

Kobe Adeleke-Hokes – Peachtree Ridge, JR

Adeleke-Hokes has been an explosive threat, totaling 224 receiving yards with an average of 112.0 yards per game. He has caught 9 passes, averaging 24.89 yards per catch. Adeleke-Hokes has scored 2 touchdowns, with his longest reception being 87 yards, underscoring his big-play ability. The 6′ 180 lbs. junior looks to be JR QB Darnell Kelly’s top target in the early season, so he should be well fed with targets throughout the fall to showcase his talent.

Keiron Brown – Spalding, JR

Brown has been a standout with his efficiency, recording 211 receiving yards in just 3 catches, giving him an outstanding average of 70.33 yards per catch. He has averaged 211.0 yards per game, with a long reception of 9 yards. Brown doesn’t have a huge sample size, but he does the ability to break open into the open field. Whether he can sustain this current receiving yards, is very unlikely, but it shows the type of talent Brown has.

Cam Nixon – Cross Creek, SR

Nixon has been a reliable option in the passing game, with 211 receiving yards, averaging 105.5 yards per game. He has caught 8 passes, leading to an average of 26.38 yards per catch. Nixon has scored 4 touchdowns, with his longest reception being 82 yards. The senior has a big frame at 6’3″ and really accelerates into his top speed out of his release. Nixon is the type of senior to watch closely this fall, he is explosive.

Keyon Standifer – Athens Academy, SOPH

Standifer has been a consistent contributor, totaling 210 receiving yards, with an average of 105.0 yards per game. He has caught 12 passes, averaging 17.50 yards per catch. Standifer has scored 3 touchdowns receiving, and also has a long run 66-yard touchdown run too. The sophomore has been a reliable playmaker during his early career at Athens Academy, and his dynamic skill level puts him among the best skill players in his recruiting class.

Jahsaun Clarke – Norcross, SR

Clarke has been a dependable target, recording 209 receiving yards, averaging 104.5 yards per game. He has caught 16 passes, averaging 13.06 yards per catch. Clarke has scored 2 touchdowns, with his longest reception being 32 yards. Better known as Sauce, Clarke can change directions on a dime, and shake the elastic out of the socks of the defense. Clark’s quickness and route running makes for a nightmare for opposing defenses.
