Here are some of the top passing leaders in the GHSA through Week 2 with their Hudl film included, if possible.
Ben Brown – Wesleyan, SR
Brown has been the standout quarterback so far, leading the state with 639 passing yards across two games. He averages 319.5 yards per game, demonstrating his consistency and ability to push the ball downfield. Brown has completed 45 of his 67 attempts, resulting in a 67.2% completion rate. With 9 touchdowns and only 1 interception, his efficiency is evident, reflected in his impressive quarterback rating of 131. Brown has been among the most poise passers in the state, and his deep ball throws can be majestic.
Ethan Long – Adairsville, SR
Long has shown remarkable accuracy and poise, accumulating 585 passing yards with an average of 292.5 yards per game. He has completed 50 out of 68 passes, which gives him an excellent 73.5% completion rate. Long has thrown 6 touchdowns and 1 interception, maintaining a solid quarterback rating of 122. The Dalton transfer was our pick for Preseason All-State in 3A, and that prediction might hold true if he keeps it up.
Davis Strickland – Morgan Co., JR
Strickland has been highly efficient, passing for 564 yards over two games, with an average of 282.0 yards per game. His 31 completions out of 42 attempts translate to a stellar 73.8% completion rate. Strickland has contributed 6 touchdowns while only throwing 1 interception, earning him a strong quarterback rating of 145. Strickland adds a dynamic that Morgan County has not had, a true passer who can take a game over with his arm.
Devin Edmonds – Jones Co., SR
Edmonds has also put up impressive numbers, with 559 passing yards over two games, averaging 279.5 yards per game. He has completed 34 of 48 passes, resulting in a 70.8% completion rate. Edmonds has thrown 6 touchdowns and has not yet thrown an interception, earning a high quarterback rating of 149. If he continues at this rate, Edmonds will be on pace for an All-State season.
Jordan Do – Archer, JR
Do has been solid, throwing for 526 yards with an average of 263.0 yards per game. He has completed 43 out of 59 passes, which gives him a 72.9% completion rate. Do has thrown 3 touchdowns and 1 interception, with a quarterback rating of 110. What Do not do? The dual-threat passer has shades of Jordan Yates in his game.
Brock Szakacs – East Forsyth, SR
Szakacs has put up 506 passing yards, with an average of 253.0 yards per game. He has completed 34 out of 49 passes, resulting in a 69.4% completion rate. Szakacs has thrown 4 touchdowns without an interception, earning a solid quarterback rating of 130. His performance has been consistent, and he does an excellent job executing East Forsyth’s elaborate spread offense.
Blake Weldon – Schley Co., JR
Weldon has accumulated 505 passing yards, averaging 252.5 yards per game. He has completed 40 out of 62 passes, giving him a 64.5% completion rate. Weldon has thrown 6 touchdowns but has been intercepted twice, resulting in a quarterback rating of 109. His performance has been strong, and his gunslinger mentality will continue where legendary passer Jay Kanazawa left off.
