Varner Garners College Offers

Hiram’s Kristian Varner has been a 2019 recruit that we have seen make good progression during his high school football career, and over the last month his recruitment has really kicked up a notch with heavy Division I football interest coming from all directions. The high-upside 6’4″ 240-pound defensive end has the frame that almost every school is looking for, and when you couple that with his solid academic background (1120 SAT score), it was really no surprise to see him land these offers.

Buffalo was the first school to offer back on February 15th, and since then he has received offers from Arkansas State, Tulane, Eastern Kentucky, Ball State, Vanderbilt and Tennessee State. When asked about which schools are standing out early on, Varner replied, “As of right now Vandy and Arkansas State stand out the most.”

Varner emerged this season onto the varsity with some promising film and solid stats with 36 tackles on the season. From an athletic stand point he really stands out, and just watching the shear determination he displays as he get after the ball carrier, you can absolutely see his high-upside to excel at the next level.

He has a good frame to continue to add some serious weight and end up being around 260-270 pounds at the next level with out losing much of his speed. Right now, he’s very raw in the weight room, but given the right amount of time he should flourish.

His versatility to impact the game in multiple facets will make him to a coveted camp invite this summer. Right now, Varner only has a planned camp visit to Vanderbilt, but considering the recent surge in colleges interested, we expect more P5’s to enter the picture with camp invites.

Heading into next season, Varner is one of the recruits we expect to take another jump in the state of Georgia, and be a real breakout players. His production should certainly see a bump in terms of tackles for loss, and we think he can get around double-digit sacks in 2018.
