Tri-Cities’ Big-Time Ball Player

One of the best two-way players in the class of 2021 is Cameron Ball out of Tri-Cities. Over the last year here, the athletic 6’5″ 300 lbs. lineman has been dominating both sides of the line of scrimmage, but probably the best play of his high school career occurred last Friday against Mundy’s Mill.

Mundy’s Mill was on offense and ran a simple off-tackle run towards the left sideline. Ball, playing DT recognized the play quickly, scraped off his block, and was in pursuit. He met the ball carrier stopping him before any real positive gain, but instead of tackling, he just flat-out robbed the ball carrier of the football. Now with the pigskin in his possession, and most of the opposing team paralyzed by Ball’s theft, the 2021 prospect showed off his speed for a 30-yard return for a score.

It was an amazing play, and rightfully earned a spot in the top 3 plays of the week. This was not even Ball’s first time making the top plays of the week, and historically lineman do not repeat, but Ball is a special kind of athlete.

Over the last year, the 2021 lineman has been hard at work.

“I think I have improved on my speed a lot,” he said.

That was evident on the return itself, where the huge athlete was seriously cruising down the sideline. Ball is playing with more urgency this fall too, and really taking advantage of his natural size.

“What separates me is it’s not many 6’5 305 lbs. kids that are athletic like me.”

Being a two-way player, Ball models his game after Derrick Brown on defense, a former standout from Lanier, and also Quentin Nelson on offense. Both are great athletes who are playing the best football of their careers, and for that matter, so is Cameron Ball.

The jumbo athlete’s goal for the remainder of the season is to get his team deep into the playoffs and contend for the state title. Right now, his Tri-Cities squad is 4-0 and has an important matchup upcoming against Creekside.

With tons of colleges’ around the country in pursuit of Ball, his recruitment has been trimmed down to just 5 teams. Illinois, Arkansas, Tennessee, Arizona State, and Georgia Tech are the finalist for the versatile big man.

There is a lot on the line with that big decision up ahead, but Ball is letting his recruitment still go with the flow. This is what he said about his recruitment at the moment.

“Programs I say I feel the most comfortable with would be the ones in my top 5 and the goal is to make my decision on signing day in February.”

Whoever Ball signs with will certainly get a powerful athlete with excellent top-end speed for his position, wherever that may be. I’m sure every program at this point has an opinion of where they want to play Ball, and there is always a chance another program could crack his top 5 with so much time until his final decision.
