Very few class of 2020 athletes around the state of Georgia walked away from the Mega Camps at Mercer and Kennesaw this last weekend with more offers than Tony Ward out of Parkview. The powerful hitting linebacker scored 6 offers on Friday at the Kennesaw Camp with Alabama State, Arkon, Navy, FIU, Kent State & Tusculum coming in with a scholarship opportunity.
We caught up with Ward on Friday night to hear his reaction.
“It just serves as evidence that I can do anything through God and my own skill set, as I continue to train and work my body and mind to its peak, the more recognition I feel I am capable of receiving,” he said.
Ward went to Mercer the next day, and earned an offer from the local college after camping, which capped off his weekend with 7 offers – many from high-academic institutions. He is expected to go the Lagrange Camp on the 6th, Georgia State on the 7th and Troy on the 10th.
The offer explosion makes a lot of sense considering Ward’s excellent academics (he takes advance placement and honors classes), and the work he has put in this offseason. The 2020 recruit was someone we always projected as a “D1” recruit, and could go either “FBS or FCS” in our eyes, but the last few days has really cemented his spot to play FBS football.
Everything has really paid off the for the talented linebacker, and it’s obvious with his camps upcoming, that he has his eyes on local G5 colleges, too. Point being, if you are high-academic program, strike while the iron is hot, and offer Ward. He has the work ethic, tools, and academics to make your college proud.
Ward is a new student-athlete at Parkview after last year starring at Brookwood, and earning an invite to the Elite GA Classic. Heading into his senior year, Ward has only one individual goal on hand.
“My goal is to be the best linebacker in the state, unanimously.” That certainly sets the bar high, but for a player like Ward, whose work ethic permeates thru his play, it’s possible.
