In the preseason, we chose Lovett to be our surprise team in Class 3A-A Private rankings, and they have certainly lived up to the billing with a 4-0 start to the season. We knew the program had a strong contingency of seniors returning, and one player who stood out was versatile playmaker Talen Frett.
The two-way player always seems to find the football, and no better example was last week against rival Pace Academy, where the senior intercepted a pass and then returned it 50 yards for a touchdown. Frett showcases his great IQ reading the play as he dropped back in coverage, getting excellent depth, and demonstrating the speed to run around any tacklers.
Electric plays like last week have become the norm at Lovett, and one reason why this season has been so exhilarating for the community.
“My senior year is going great; we have a great squad this year sitting on 4-0 right now headed into region play! Stat wise, I have 2 Interceptions – 1 returned for pick-six – 6 PBU’s, and 14 tackles,” Frett said.
Perhaps no other prospect tagged our page more during the summer camp season than Frett. He was ultra-focused on improving his game and was constantly at college camps getting reps against competition. That type of dedication was noteworthy.
“From last year, I’ve mostly improved my man-to-man coverage through live reps and ball skills,” he said.
On the recruiting front, Frett was very upbeat about his current situation.
“Recruiting is going well. I’m planning on going to a few game day visits this fall for sure, just working to get them set in stone,” he said.
With a 4-0 record, Lovett walks into Week 5 ranked #6 in Private 3A-A. A surprise to most in the media, but this experienced group is different. They are focused, and Frett thinks they can go all the way.
“My goal for the season along with my team’s is to perform at the highest level we can and hopefully walk away from this thing with a ring!”
The last state title for Lovett was in 2013, and the program has been competitive for almost every season during the 19-year tenure under coach Mike Muschamp. Although we are biased in picking Lovett as our ‘underdog’ team, this squad is worth watching this fall, so be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter/X to hear about seniors like Talen Frett and athletes all over the state.
Great article.
I’m loving the upbeat and positive vibes from Frett and he includes his team as well.
