Speedy Decosey Is a Gamebreaker

Ray Decosey is an electrifying junior receiver who took home Week 6’s Top Play. The Campbell High School student-athlete had an amazing return where he seemingly broke every defender’s ankles out there on the field.

His elite speed only complements his ability to see the field, where typically nobody can catch him. Luckily we were able to catch the speedy athlete and talk about this season and his early recruitment.

Ray Decosey“This season has been a bit of a struggle, at least the beginning. Although we struggle as a team, I continue to try and make plays to bring my teammates up.”

The 2018 recruit models his game after Pro Bowl wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., explaining, “He just plays with so much energy and swagger and it inspires me!”

Like we mentioned earlier, Decosey is one of the fastest players in the state, and his ability to break a big play can change the momentum of a football game. He ran a 4.35 40 time this summer at Georgia State’s football camp and believes that his quicks are an advantage. “My biggest strength, I have to give all up to my speed and my ability to make guys miss.”

With speed like that, colleges have to be all over Decosey, so it was no surprise to hear that several FBS programs have been in contact recently. “So far this year I’ve heard from Georgia Tech, Duke, East Carolina, South Carolina, Coastal Carolina, Georgia State, Navy and UCF.”

Decosey has nothing official set up visit-wise but expects to make it up to a few Duke games for unofficials this fall. It’s evident from his Top Play from Week 6 that Decosey has FBS talent, so it will be interesting to see how his recruitment plays out and if more Power 5s begin to show interest.
