South Forsyth’s Davis Shanley is a Hilltopper

Davis Shanley, a senior quarterback at South Forsyth High School, committed to Western Kentucky this evening. The talented Class of ’17 signal-caller said at the beginning of this month he would be making his commitment at 8 p.m. on August 6th, and true to his word, Shanley tweeted:

Shanley visited Western Kentucky back on an April 19th, when he reportedly had an amazing visit. He made a return visit back in June, and the Hilltoppers coaching staff presented the South Forsyth gunslinger with a scholarship offer.

Shanley holds double-digit offers (UT-Chattanooga, Kent State and Old Dominion to name a few) but being under the tutelage of Western Kentucky quarterbacks coach Brian Brohm and playing in their offense was too good of an opportunity.

SF_DShanley_1_091315_web“WKU was a school that had lots to offer, especially academically, and they have a well designed offense, which I love,” Shanley said.

Going through the recruiting process has been an experience for Shanley, and he understands nothing is set in stone until National Signing Day.

“This process has been amazing and I don’t believe the process is truly over until I sign my signature!”

Shanley is one of the top quarterbacks in the state of Georgia and led his South Forysth squad to the 6A quarterfinals last season, where they lost to eventual state champions Colquitt County. He has worked hard this offseason to build off last season and has big aspirations heading into his final year of high school football.

“My goals for next year are to be better than we were last year and a State Championship for my school.”

With his commitment, Western Kentucky has landed a very talented quarterback with good athleticism. Shanley scored a 98.94 SPARQ at the Nike Combine in Miami and is more than capable of tucking it and running.

Shanley has a nice touch on his passes, especially from deep, where he does a great job of leading his receiver. His ability to feel pressure in the pocket comes naturally, and he does a great job of stringing out plays, giving his receivers more time to get open.

Shanley is the ninth commitment for Western Kentucky in the Class of 2017 and the third player from the state of Georgia (Caleb Huntley of Locust Grove and Khalil Newton of Stephenson).
