South Carolina First To Offer Richmond Hill Rising Junior

The Richmond Hill HS Twitter account made a “huge” announcement this morning when one of the team’s rising juniors received a big first offer. The South Carolina Gamecocks offered 6’1″, 170-pound Class of ’18 athlete Sam James (Watch highlight down at bottom).

The sophomore sensation plays offense and defense for Richmond Hill. College coordinators will argue during staff meetings over which side to play him on because he is so versatile and talented on both.

Last season, James totaled 853 all-purpose yards—24 catches for 516 yards and six touchdowns, and 253 yards on kickoffs. On defense, he led the team in interceptions with three and had 37 tackles.

Richmond Hill wide receiver and special teams coach Patrick Means spoke on what James brings to the table day-in, day-out:

“The biggest asset Sam brings to the table is his competitiveness. He is ultra talented but can’t stand being out worked in anything! Truly a special athlete that has the leadership, competitiveness and athletic ability that makes him a difference maker on and off the field!”

He is a shifty wide receiver with a long, fluid running stride, while also possessing incredible balance. James latches on to passes securely and reaches new altitudes when high-pointing deep balls.

James is also a devastating hitter on defense at his safety spot. He quickly reacts to the play and gets downhill after the ball-carrier. James looks comfortable at free safety and flows over top naturally with the play. His outstanding acceleration and instincts result in momentum swinging big hits and interceptions.

The proverbial “offer snowball” is just beginning to roll, but expect Power 5 interest to increase for the explosive Richmond Hill athlete.
