Social Circle’s Baynes Talks Recruitment

Social Circle’s Phillip Baynes is a 2023 defensive back prospect who played well his junior year and has caught the attention of college scouts. Baynes was able to take the time and update us with the latest news around his recruitment.

Who all has offered you?

“University of Tennessee-Martin and Morehouse offered.”

Where have you visited? Do you have more visits planned soon?

“I visited Georgia Tech and Morehouse already. Plan on visiting Tennessee-Martin on April 23rd.”

Goals for spring practice?

“My Goals for spring practice are to lead and teach the young guys and keep the culture going. This is my upcoming senior and my 4th year starting.”

Are you camping this summer?

“I’m going to be going to several schools this summer.”

When would you like to make a decision?

“Would like to have a decision made by December my senior year.”

The Scoop

At 6’3″ and 190 lbs., Baynes has a long running stride that allows him to eat up big chunks of yardage. He is able to streak across the field and create big turnovers. His length really affects a play, and whether he is making a tackle and ripping the football out, or breaking up a pass, Baynes finds a way to get his hands on the football. He is fairly physical as a tackler, and we really like his reactions getting downhill out to the flat.

Baynes has a legit frame to work with, and we like the foundational skill level he shows on defense. Right now, a lot of Baynes’ interest is from FCS programs, but given his length and acceleration, we think he could see his recruitment really take a jump here with FBS programs in the coming months.
