Recruitment Tell All for Elwell

Theo Elwell is a big tight end prospect that the McIntosh staff has raved about since spring practice a year ago. The 6’6″ pass-catching TE lived up to their expectations last fall with 23 receptions 320 yards and 6 touchdowns. Elwell has seen his college recruitment heat up since the start of the offseason and provided us with an update.

Who all has offered you?

“Navy and Army.”

Where have you visited? Do you have more visits planned soon?

“Cincinnati, Virginia Tech, Navy, West Virginia, and Clemson. I plan to visit WVU again and Middle Tennessee in the next few weekends.”

“My goal is to bring my 40-time down to below a 4.75 while maintaining weight.”

Where are you camping this summer?

“Lots of places such as Coastal Carolina, Clemson, Cincinnati, WVU, Kentucky, Army, and many more.”

When would you like to make a decision?

“whenever it feels right to me, I don’t have a time limit for myself but I just want to be happy with where I go.”

The Scoop

Elwell looked more like a basketball prospect this time a year ago, but the upside was always there. The 6’6″ frame allows for the rising senior to go up top and be a legit redzone target. His 6 touchdown receptions were almost all caught right around the endzone where his frame was able to box out the defensive backs. Elwell has legit size, and is one of the biggest TE prospects in this recruiting class at 6’6″ 225 lbs. He is just starting to get a hold of playing football but we are very impressed with his determination to break tackles and get extra yardage.

Going into next fall, we would like to see him utilize a stiff arm, which would take advantage of his length, and we would like to see him keep his feet more consistently through a tackle attempt. There are flashes last year, you can see the FBS upside here, especially with some of the latest video clips Elwell has sent this spring where he is practically ripping off the basketball rim doing slam dunks. You have to think a lot of college programs will be watching closely during spring practice and during the summer college camp session, so it should be an eventful next few months for the rising senior out of McIntosh.
