Recruiting Recap 9/2 – 9/8

Roswell’s Sheldon Evans and Quintarius Neely are running all over opponents this season thus far. Two big reasons are Cameron Whiteman and Jordan Tucker on the offensive line. The road-graders are paving expressways for the talented back. Whiteman (SR FILM) was a Rising Senior All-Star and is a current Harvard commit. Tucker (JR FILM) is a massive offensive tackle prospect (6’6″, 325) who just buries defenders into the ground. He visited Oregon this weekend.

Speaking of Roswell recruits, class of 2017 safety Xavier McKinney was offered by Tennessee on September 2nd. He now has five offers, the others being Clemson, South Carolina, Virginia Tech and Alabama. Watch his first three games HERE.

Westlake’s Jaden Hunter is a hard-hitting linebacker who was offered by Michigan and Michigan State last week. He has over 20 offers and is just a class of 2017 recruit. UGA, never short to one-up their northern football counterparts, sent a little bit of mail post-September 1st.

Camden County’s Mack Nash has been playing a lot of defensive tackle this year and has looked impressive. Nash is a big athlete at 6’5″, 255 pounds and has a very long frame and wingspan. His long arms make him very hard to block, especially for high school interior linemen. He currently holds offers from Appalachian State, Georgia State, Navy, Army, USF and more. Watch film HERE.

Cedar Grove 2017 QB Jelani Woods’ recruitment has really picked up. He received mail from the FSU Seminoles and Mississippi State last week. Be sure to keep an eye on Jelani and Cedar Grove, which is just loaded with talent and weapons for Woods to throw to.

Elijah Holyfield chose UGA over Auburn last Friday at noon. His commitment made him the 12th ESPN 300 RB to commit to UGA since ’06, the most of any school. Later that evening, he celebrated his commitment with a big game, rushing for over 180 yards and four touchdowns. Two of the scores came in overtime, including the game-winner.

Another famous Atlanta sports icon’s son received good news last week, as well. Baylen Buchanan, son of Ray Buchanan, was offered by Arizona at cornerback. A current Louisville commit, Buchanan has not stopped looking around. Georgia Tech has been hotly pursuing the corner with teammate and fellow Louisville commit Malik Staples as a package.

A real sleeper is Nygl Eaddy of Westminster High School (Augusta). He plays for a small school, in a lesser division, and Eaddy dominates like you would expect, but his ability to make people miss is still remarkable. He resembles Tony Zenon, who came out of GISA about six years back. Watch latest game film HERE.

With two already in college, the Custis family out of Lovejoy HS continues to be recruited. Michigan and Indiana offered Meshael Custis over the weekend. Custis plays corner and has incredible size at the position at 6’2″, 190. Jim Harbaugh recruited Georgia heavily at Stanford and that trend has continued with his new job in Ann Arbor.

Brittain Brown’s father told Recruit Georgia that Brittain was awarded Defensive Player of the Week with 16 tackles. His final offensive stats were 15 carries for 54 yards, three catches for 17 yards against Etowah, which is the No. 6-ranked team in Class AAAAAA. His film showcases impressive tackling against junior running back Tyray Devezin.

Lanier’s running back Ashton Barnes committed to Air Force over the weekend. Read our commitment article HERE.

Newton’s Jeremiah Holloman has been receiving offers left and right this weekend. The wide receiver had a big game Friday, scoring three times, including the 77-yard game-winner against Rome. UAB offered Saturday morning and soon after UNLV, Georgia Southern and Troy submitted offers. Holloman is an extremely athletic wideout with fantastic size for a junior at 6’4″, 195. He does a good job high-pointing the ball and fighting for space. Watch film HERE.

Eric Stokes, an Eastside running back/cornerback, might be the fastest player in the state. He ran a reported low 4.3 at GT and UGA camps this summer and can flat out burn defenders.
