Sleeper of the Day

Clayton Coppock
2025 Mays
Wide Receiver

One of the leading receivers in 4A to start off the 2024 season is Clayton Coppock. The three-year starter out of Mays has a long-running stride; after the catch, he is very dangerous in the open field. Coppock accelerates quickly and looks fast in pads. He is a fluid athlete, showing excellent ball skills and body control to catch the contested pass, and he continues to keep his feet to prolong the huge play. Coppock is smoothing coming out of his breaks. Great acceleration helps with his release. An underrated part of his game is reading blocks, which is effective as a returner, but you can see on tunnel screens Coppock slips through small areas and utilizes his blocks exceptionally well. He’s a creative runner, spins out of tackles, and the great body control results in breaking a % of tackle attempts. Coppock’s route running lacks variety, but considering his quickly he comes out of his breaks, we feel like Coppock should continue to harnest. Coppock reminds me of Dayton Wade out of Lovejoy from 4-5 years ago, who was equally slept on despite having an All-State SR year. He’s now a rookie on the Ravens.

Three ‘n Out

The defensive tackle position is hot right now for the class of ’25. Plenty of late offers are going around the state, and one recent notable one is Clemson offering Lakeside-Atlanta senior Makhi Williams-Lee. Shortly after the offer, Williams-Lee announced his decommitment from NC State, and last weekend he was in Death Valley catching a Clemson game. To say his recruitment is moving fast with the Tigers is an understatement, but a lot of P4 schools are perusing the state for hidden gems, you could see more P4 colleges offering Mekhi-Williams.

Christon Jones earned an offer over the weekend from Georgia State, which you can find above with our listed offers, but wanted to add more commentary. The 6′ 200 lbs. Archer senior linebacker is a multi-year starter who flies to the football utilizing his great speed and is physical attacking the gaps with big run-stopping hits. Georgia State was the first D1 offer for Jones, who visited on September 15th. With an 11-second 100m time, and even a recent Berry T&F offer, Jones has the kind of speed that should continue to bolster D1 interest in the coming weeks.

Kennesaw Mountain’s SR Christian Smith earned an offer from UAB last week and then took a visit over the weekend. Seems like the visit went over well, and the senior edge defender provides a great update in the Tweet below. Smith continues to be a 2025 prospect to watch closely as the recruiting cycle winds down, so stay tuned for more recruiting updates.
