Recruiting Recap 9/29

Welcome to another edition of the Recruiting Recap! Just a quick programming note, we are not going to be doing the recap on Monday’s during the season, but will still try to grab most of the recruiting news from the weekend. It’s a bit tougher with the heavy influx of film that comes our way and simply cannot load all of the weekend’s tweets unfortunately.

Well, thanks for stopping by, and if you are new here, this feature is where we tally up all of the offers, commitments and of course our sleeper of the day.

Let’s get right into it, hope everyone is having a good week! – David

Commitments

Deion Colzie
2021 Athens Acd.
Notre Dame

Scoop: One of the best athletes at wide receiver we have seen in the state in years. Colzie has Randy Moss-like athleticism, and a similar frame to boot. The 2021 recruit has potential to be one of the best WR’s in the country.

Quindarius Sterling
2021 Douglass
Army

Scoop: One of the better dual-threat athletes in the state that no one knew about, but should be a solid piece at Army. He will probably get some snaps at option QB, but if that does not workout Sterling has the versatility to play other positions.

Jaylon Brown
2021 Kell
Robert Morris

Scoop: Smooth wide receiver out of Cobb County who had a strong junior campaign, and is now following his teammate LaFrance to Robert Morris. Brown has solid size and nice break away speed to stretch a defense.

Christian Anderson
2021 Cedar Grove
UT-Chattanooga

Scoop: One of the biggest o-linemen in the state at 6’7″ and 280 lbs. He has yet to play a game his senior year at Cedar Grove, that will happen this Friday, but Anderson showed a ton of upside his junior year and has put on a good bit of weight since fall 2019 too. Huge upside here in Anderson.

Heating Up

Ian Matthews
2021 St. Ann-Pacelli

Perhaps no one in the state was more of a unknown going into 2020 than Matthews. He played as a junior, sure, but you could tell that the 6’5″ 280 lbs. athlete was still trying to figure out his place on the gridiron after being a basketball player most of his life. Well, now Virginia Tech, Duke and Arkansas have offered the jumbo-athlete, and his recruitment could really heat up fast here. Matthews shows outstanding speed for his size, and early senior film he looks a lot more dominant getting into the backfield and just creating havoc. You don’t typically see linemen at his size move this well, so more FBS programs are sure to jump into his recruitment here shortly.

Sleeper of the Day

Carter Kulka
2021 Woodward

Kulka has a solid frame, above average length and looks pretty good at the point of attack. Gets good leverage, keeps a flat back and does a nice job of occupying space. Kulka is really a DT at the next level, even if he’s only 240ish right now. He plays both DE and DT in HS, so you like the versatility, but his mindset and play style is of an interior defender. Definitely like his general energy he shows on each play. Strong natural balanced athlete, should make a good jump here in the weight room and will be over 270 before you know it. Right now, Kulka’s lone offer is from Morehead State. Take a look at his most recent highlight against Riverwood down below.
