Sleeper of the Day

Toreco Harper
2025 Evans
Linebacker

Harper finished his junior year with over 80 tackles on the season. The consistent 2025 linebacker hits with authority and uses his low center of gravity to blow through receivers and backs. Harper has good balance and does a nice job of sinking his hips to get around blocks. He shows solid hands at the point of attack. Harper can fill the hole using his good acceleration and meets the ball carrier with intensity. His tackling needs to be more consistent in striking at the midsection and driving the legs through contact, but the velocity of his impact is impressive either way. His speed to the perimeter and intensity after the ball carrier are his best attributes. Harper is very good at tackling on the perimeter. We’d like to see him continue to improve in pass coverage and get quicker in the hips. At around 6′ and 213 lbs., Harper needs to find ways to differentiate himself from the pack. Linebacker is a competitive position for colleges to scout, so the 2025 prospect needs to create some noise around his senior year. Speaking of, Harper is now suiting up for Evans this fall, where he has already helped the school beat their arch-rival Thomson for the first time since 1987. He already started off the year with a pass breakup and two tackles for a loss, so we are excited to see how his senior year develops in a new setting.

Three ‘n Out

During our preseason scouting, there was one 2026 player who especially stood out, and that was Taylor County’s Chan Lumpkin. The rangy linebacker prospect accelerates quickly to the football and is explosive tackler in space. He will have P4 offers before you know it.

Central sophomore QB JR Harris popped off with several explosive runs during there 49-15 win over Spalding. The young dual threat passer topped out 20.9 MPH, which if memory serves correct, is his fastest in-game speed yet. Harris is stronger, quicker and faster than ever. He was extremely efficient his freshman year, almost to a conservative level, and the sophomore is about to fully unleash his multi-layered skill set this fall.

Charles Maxell III is going postal during the month of August with great performances in the preseason and the first game of the season. While he is delivering great passes, the mailman has been slacking, and yesterday some mail from Cornell finally arrived that was originally sent in May. The 4.3 GPA student-athlete threw for 250 yards in a 36-35 loss to Fellowship Christian, a top 5 team in the Class 3A-A Private rankings. Maxell is one of the top candidates in Class A DII to be All-State, and should be in store for increased recruiting exposure throughout the fall.
