Recruiting Recap 6/5

Welcome to another edition of the Recruiting Recap! Thanks to everyone who has stopped by the last few months while we do our weekday updates. For those who are new, each day of the week (Mon-Fri) we tally up all of the offers/commitments from the day before, three players who are heating up and our always coveted sleeper of the day spot.

The goal of this feature is to keep college coaches up to date on the daily happenings here in Georgia, but if a program wants more specific prognostications on 2021 recruits they should seek out our premium NCAA compliant database. We are currently working on an entire 2021-2024 package, and that should be ready by the end of the month. This database is more detailed, accurate and affordable than anything else out there, so contact recruitgeorgia1@gmail.com for further information.

Outside of that, I hope everyone is doing well. Football workouts start back here in Georgia this upcoming Monday, I’m sure everyone is excited about that! – David

Three Heating Up

Connor Weselman
2021 Westminster

The Westminster punter has been blowing up lately with offers. Standing 6’4″ and 190 lbs, he can flat out blast a football. Currently ranked one of the top punters in the country by several highly respected special teams recruiting services, Weselman is also a great student in the classroom. He has received recent offers from Charlotte, Stanford, Cornell, Harvard and UVA. Definitely emerging as the top punting prospect here in the state of Georgia, better stay tuned as more P5 interest should start coming in here shortly.

Nick Mercer
2021 Crisp Co.

Mercer is a stout defensive line prospect for the 2019 state runner-ups in 3-A. At 6’3″ 235 lbs., he is very strong at the point of attack and has a legit motor getting into the backfield. He has seen an influx in college interest here lately. FIU offer yesterday, and they follow on the heels of App State, UL-Monroe and Southern. That’s three G5 offers in a row here, and now puts the 2021 defender with close to double digit FBS offers in total now.

Antonio Taylor
2021 Cedar Grove

Taylor earned a few offers in late April-early May, but didn’t see another offer for another month. Well, in the last two days both Notre Dame College and Tuskegee came in with offers. The 2021 safety prospect is a really high IQ football player (good student too with a 3.8 GPA), and in our book should get more D1 interest here in the month of June. He was a first team All-Region performer for the 3-A state champs, always seems to be in the right place. Either way, that’s 5 offers in the last month here, and Taylor should continue to see that interest increase going into the summer.

Sleeper of the Day

Matt McAdoo
2021 Wilcox Co.

The Wilcox athlete has really improved as an athlete over the last year, and must be up 10 lbs. in the weight department. Lifts have definitely improved and he’s just under 400 lbs. on his squat. McAdoo flips his hips quickly and has above average speed to stick with the receiver, but more than anything it is his reactions to the receiver that sets him up so well. He has quick feet for sure, and does a very good job of getting inside positioning. McAdoo is a solid tackler to wrapping up at the waist and shows good hands getting off blocks too boot. Maintaining leverage and pushing the running back back into pursuit. At 5’11” he has a very good frame. Probably 3-4 interceptions his junior year. Mostly in man coverage but does have some situations in zone as well. Getting quicker with his acceleration would definitely help, but like so many Wilcox players, he should definitely make a jump in terms of explosiveness. They do a very good job with their athletes in the weight room and all seem to have good body compositions. McAdoo has solid film, honestly some of the best in this CB class in the state. He does a very good job of raking the pass out of the receivers hands. Just a pure football player, but top end explosion could be a determining factor between him getting FBS interest and FCS, but either way – he is a D1 football player. Made some big plays on special teams as a junior too, returning several back for long returns – housing a few punts. He might be a better fit at FS for a cover 3 heavy team. He does a good job of timing his jumps and since he returns punts, you got to believe he has a good feel reading the football from a distance. Currently has an offer from Austin Peay.
