Three Heating Up

Thomas Ezkial Davis
2021 Lowndes

The 2019 Region Defensive Player of the Year has been committed to Miss State for the betterment of a month now, but that has not stopped more P5 programs from jumping into his recruitment. The instinctive high IQ linebacker has seen offers from Miami, Indiana, South Carolina since his committment, and honestly doesn’t look like the trend is going to buck anytime soon. Davis has solid size at 6’2″ and has a fiery mindset getting into the backfield with vigor using quick hands getting off blocks. Definitely a 2021 recruit to continue to monitor here; more P5 options might continue to open up.

Justin Benton
2023 Newton

Benton was one of those prospects that we knew about going into high school, and freshman year he didn’t disappoint with his production. Perhaps one of the best seasons of any freshman in the state with 79 tackles, 16 for a loss and 9 sacks. Benton has exceptional size at 6’3″ 240 and should continue to grow into an interior defender. His recruitment has been blowing up for some time now, but lately we have seen a pretty big influx of P5 offers. Florida came in yesterday and earlier this month Kentucky, LSU, Nebraska, Southern Cal and Michigan State. Benton made the Max Preps freshman All-American team, and should be another in a long line of athletic defensive linemen at Newton who went on to excel in college.

Freddie Felton III
2021 Ola

Felton has an intriguing 6’4″ frame, and suggest some potential hybrid WR/TE at the next level. He weighs around 200 lbs. and should continue to pour on weight. What we like most about Felton is his ball skills – can high-point the football really well. Definitely the body composition that D1 programs look for a big possession type of receiver. Over the last month Felton has seen offers from Gardner-Webb, SEMO and Tenn State as well. His recruitment is heating up for sure, and definitely think more D1 offers are around the corner here.

Sleeper of the Day

Tykeem Wallace
2021 Thomas Co. Central

Wallace had a huge sophomore year, grabbing a lot of attention in middle Georgia – even getting a lot of talk from a former NFL player about his potential. Jump into junior year, and what makes Wallace stand out from other players similar size is his insane balance. He doesn’t look like it, but Wallace breaks a lot of tackles and to go along with his very good speed; you can see why he has so many explosive plays for Thomas County Central. You can definitely see his skills set working well in the special teams and it looks like he took back a few kicks last season. Where he might be best suited though is at defensive back. Wallace has excellent burst and is physical when he tackles, so closing out passes to the flat then executing a clean tackle happen a good bit on film. He is a fundamental tackler meeting at the waste. Wallace needs to continue to build off the last two years here and put together a strong senior year. The 2021 recruit has not received in an offer very recently, but this time a year ago had some legit FBS momentum.
