Sleeper of the Day
Gage Lawrence
2026 DE
Milton
Lawrence came over to Milton and was an immediate depth piece that could be moved across the line of scrimmage and provide some much-needed length for that group. At around 6’5″, Lawrence does a nice job of using his length to get off blocks. He leverages his hands with good placement and drives his legs through the blocker. Strong hands at the point of attack and quick ripping through blockers. He is an active defender who will track from the backside and shows good patience in staying in his rush lane, which was very beneficial in the state title game against Hughes. That was probably his best game of the season, sacking the top dual-threat QB in 5A multiple times in the biggest game. Lawrence has a lot of upside as a SDE at the next level. He weighs around 230 and from my tracking, has been steadily adding 20 or so lbs. each offseason. Improving hip flexibility, getting lower with his pad level, and more agile side-to-side are general areas to improve. Overall, Lawrence is a solid athlete showcasing a 29.5″ vertical jump, and has the size that D1 schools covet. He creates a lot of havoc by getting his hands up, deflecting passes, and consistently applying pressure. Miami of Ohio offered earlier this year, and we feel like more opportunities coming soon once HS spring practice kicks off.

Hughes JR TE Chase Golson might be a prospect to watch closely during this evaluation period. The 6’4″ 220 lbs. athlete is a big target, as seen below when he catches the football over the head of a defender and junior film highlights his unrelenting blocking off the edge. Bethune-Cookman offered over the weekend plus earlier this year EKU, FIU, and FAU offered.

Mason Freeman, one of the top 2028 receivers in the state, posted some impressive track numbers over the weekend. Freeman has an eye-catching 22.3 200m time along with a 20.05′ long jump and his 400m time was 52.99. Freeman is an exciting athlete who consistently beat coverage deep downfield for long touchdowns in 2024 and should be one of the state leaders in receiving yardage come this fall.

Top recruit Tyler Atkinson took a visit to Oregon over the weekend. The Ducks pulled all the stops for the Grayson star defender even utilizing his #AtkNup social media moniker displayed at their practice facility, and got to talk 1v1 with head coach Dan Lanning. No doubt, every team in the country wants the junior defender out of Grayson. He helped his team to the 2024 Class 6A title game and was dominant throughout the season. Over the last two seasons, Atkinson has led the state in tackles while playing against one of the toughest SOS.
