Recruiting Recap 12/11

Welcome to another quick and speedy version of the recruiting recap! Thanks for stopping by, and if you are new here this is a feature where we cover all of yesterday’s offers, commitments, decommitments and more! There is also a sleeper of the day, but enough talking, and you better start scrolling! – David

Commitments

Jaylen Blackwell
2021 Union Grove
Boston College

Scoop: Blackwell is a do-it-all player at Union Grove who originally was committed to Arkansas State, but P5 programs started to take notice of the 6’2″ 200 lbs. SS/OLB prospect. Blackwell has the immense upside to play nickle at the next level or could even grow into a linebacker, but either way, we always evaluated the 2021 recruit as a P5 caliber player. With the deck being shuffled for the class of 2021 at Boston College this fall, they were able to nab a versatile defender in Blackwell.

Decommitments

Gamarion Carters
2021 Stephens Co.

Sleeper of the Day

Deon Richardson
2021 Jones Co.

Richardson stood out as a sophomore and a junior with his big hits, and jumped on to team’s radars during the 2020 offseason hearing from FBS, FCS and DII programs. He has good speed, but it is his acceleration to the football that is more noteworthy. Already about 235 lbs., Richardson can pack the punch and could potentially outgrow the linebacker spot down the road. I suppose that tweener type body type might have created some hesitancy from some programs to offer, but he still holds offers from Charleston Southern, Tenn State & NC A&T. Over the fall Jackson State, Shorter, and Cumberland also have offered, so there is decent college interest over the entirety of his recruitment. You cannot teach how hard he hits, the 2021 recruit just explodes through with his wide frame. Nice patience reading the play, stays on his keys and makes his opponent feel his impact when going in for a tackle. A little bit better in zone coverage his senior year – he made a crazy one-handed interception that he took back 50 yards. Among the linebackers still uncommitted in the state Richardson might not have the height but certainly hits with the ferocity that D1 programs look for, and we think there are not many better options than Richardson available at linebacker.
