Recruiting Recap 11/12

Welcome to another edition of the Recruiting Recap! Thanks for stopping by, and if you are new here, this is a feature where we cover all of the offers and commitments over the last 24 hours to along with our sleeper of the day too! Sometimes we do a ‘Heating Up’, which highlights a player receiving a sudden surge of college offers.

Anyways, who would have guessed that we are already to the mid-point of November? We have one more featured story on the website, and a mountain of profiles to get made. Outside of that, college coaches, we got a database for the class of 2021 and 2022 and that can change your recruiting prospects here in Georgia – please contact recruitgeorgia1@gmail.com. – David

Commitments

Tristan Lyon
2021 Gainesville
Georgia State

Scoop: Lyon is one of the most consistent punters in the entire state with long booming punts that hang up in the air for over 4 seconds, while also being proficient in directing the punt to either side of the field. It always seems like Georgia State is able to nab a quality specialist, and we fully believe Lyon will be the punter of the future here.

Dwayne Johnson
2021 South Gwinnett
Army

Scoop: Huge pick-up here for Army. Johnson has some of the highest raw upside at 6’4″ and over 200 lbs. He has freakish change of direction for that kind of length, and has the versatility to play a number of spots on defense, but probably best utilized playing off the edge. Johnson is an absolute steal for Army, who is quickly approaching 20 commits here in the state for the class of 2021.

Heating Up

Justin Williams
2022 East Paulding

Before it is all said and done, Williams will be one of the most coveted backs in Georgia. It’s already happening in fact. The 6′ 200 lbs. back who was sidelined part of his sophomore year has played great junior year, and the college attention is really heating up with offers from Vanderbilt, Louisville, & Nebraska over the last 4 days. Williams has a near-perfect blend of size, speed and explosiveness, so we really expect more P5 programs in on the fun here shortly.

Sleeper of the Day

Lowell Jones
2021 Westminster

Jones has his film mashed up in a combo of soph and junior year highlights, which honestly means he was injured for part of the year. Either way, what stands out about the 6’2″ 200 lbs. linebacker is the explosiveness and good agility we see in his film. He closes pretty well. Very impressive leg drive through his tackle attempt, has several plays where he takes on a blocker, drives them back then makes the tackle. Good stuff. Very good blocker on the perimeter too, once again it shows how strong he is at the point of attack. Jumps the gaps and shows a relentless mindset for the linebacker spot. I also like how he switches thru playing MLB, OLB, and even DE. Jones gets extremely good leverage, he is able to get underneath his opponent and really create havoc. Love his explosiveness, Jones is what they call a good old-fashioned football player who shows a very versatile skillset and the angular explosive body type that you look for in D1 caliber linebackers. Not surprised by his wrestling finish last year. For class 3-A, he finished 6th in the state at 195. At the moment, Jones’ recruiting interest is modest, but if given the time to let him fill out his frame, I think he will end up being a steal for a college program. He’s a great student too with a 97.01 average and a 1520 on the SAT. Senior year he is playing MIKE and playing great football.
