Powerful Running Back Commits to Elon

Jasen Johnson from Mountain View committed to Elon earlier today. The powerful 6′ 215 pound running back made it official when he tweeted:

The senior worked hard last offseason to put himself in this position. He dropped 10 pounds while also making significant gains in his lifts, including a 345-pound power clean. He also made significant improvements in his straight-away speed as well as his explosiveness when hitting the hole.

With his recruitment over, we asked the new Phoenix commit what it feels like to be done with the recruiting process. “It feels like weight has been lifted off my shoulders and now I have a place I can call home.”

Johnson had other offers, but Elon’s coaching staff sold him on the entire package, and his other options just could not compare. “One of the things that caught my eye about Elon is they have the field of study I wanted to go into. Plus they have beautiful facilities, with great coaches, and a great future for the program!”

Going through the college recruiting process can certainly try the patience of most young men, so we asked Johnson if he had any good advice to provide to the underclassmen in Georgia. “One thing that I can tell future recruits is that they need to be patient and have faith in God. Don’t rush the process, let it come to you.”

Johnson was the primary ball-carrier for Mountain View this year and averaged 105.2 yards per game while tallying eight scores. His squad was a surprise team this year, going 8-3 overall and 4-2 in region play, and his efforts were a major reason why.

For Elon, he should continue to grow into his frame and become a power running back at the FCS level. The Phoenix will look to make a strong push on National Signing Day, so stay tuned to @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter to hear about any more Georgia recruits signing with the Phoenix.
