Barnes had right at 1500 all-purpose yards for the state semifinalist at Lanier. The APB was first team All-Region for his efforts. He’s got a slighter frame, but the 2020 back certainly shows a nice set of wheels. Barnes can explode through a hole showing good acceleration, but changing directions there is some considerable slow down. I would like to see him improve in that department, because his top line speed does appear good on film. The 2020 recruit was arguably the best playmaker on his team, and broke off a lot of 30 yard plays. At the LOS he makes quick decisions and seems to read the defender well, an improvement with his lateral quickness and I think he’ll get some legit slot back looks. He speed pretty much guarantees that anyways. Barnes should test well at the 40 time at college camps. He’s 170 right now, but let’s see how much weight he gains this offseason. Barnes could come back next fall and weigh in the mid 180s, boosting his recruiting stock considerably.
