This is Wooden’s first year of playing football, but he showed a lot on the field. He has a really good frame to add weight, and we think his athletic upside is near the top of these lanky basketball players turn defensive end. Last season he recorded six tackles for loss, 3 sacks and 11 QB hurries. Biggest takeaway from watching his film is how physical he is already, and how quickly he gets out of his stance. The senior shows a natural ability as a big hitter, and seems to be a really hard worker too. Wooden pursues the ball carrier from the weakside with a ton of determination and has the closing speed to chase after and catch up with skill players. If this was Wooden’s film junior year, then he would already have FBS & FCS offers. A simple redshirt will give the senior the proper time to develop into a powerful 250-265 pound pass-rusher at the next level.
