Matthews was a first team All-Region performer in 2016 and will look to build off of last year’s success this upcoming fall. He is a really hard-nosed football player who runs through his tackles with zero hesitation. He shows light feet when cutting through gaps and uses his hands well the slip off blocks. It’s no surprise that another solid tackler (Matthews) appears to have a good history as a wrestler at the state level, we have come to expect this. Matthews immense strength allows him to bring the ball carrier relatively easily and he has to be one of the strongest linebackers in the state pound for pound. Colleges should also look at him as a blocking back at the next level, because he craves contact.
