What makes you stand out as a future collegiate athlete?

My stats and my film show that I’m not afraid of hitting people. I stay on top of my grades in class and I’m not afraid of hard work.

Jones was a big-hitting safety for Upson-Lee as a junior who accumulated 5 tackles for a loss despite playing a deep safety role. He is now at OLB, where he is helping Upson-Lee to another stout defense in 3A. He does an excellent job of closing the difference between him and the ball carrier showing good patience and tackling technique in space. Jones is explosive when he hits and although he can launch a little too high at times, the impact is never withheld. Jones is solid in coverage but needs to continue to sharpen up his recognition and not let deeper routes go unchecked. Jones is up to 215 lbs., and his instincts and adept pursuit angles are a clear path towards playing time in college, even if special teams early on. With a 6’2″ frame, you have to wonder whether Jones will continue to fill out and become an OLB even at this point. Senior year should be very interesting as Jones showed some real promise on jet sweeps and being the beneficiary of their run-heavy offense on play-action passes. Although his offensive role did expand as we projected, it’s the position change on defense where Jones is lining up at a more traditional OLB spot, which seems to benefit his skill set the most. He looks physical getting off blocks, showing violent hands shedding and has the coverage skills well beyond a normal LB prospect. That’s a coveted skill set.
