Woodford ran for about 2500 yards as a sophomore and was one of the state leaders in rushing, and everyone was looking forward to his follow-up performance as a junior. Everything started off great with Woodford running over opponents and Northeast was making a push into the top 4 in 2A, but halfway through the season, the powerful running back suffered a knee injury. That derailed the Northeast’s season, and to some extent, Woodford’s recruit, but high academic programs have not backed off the 4.0 GPA student-athlete. Woodford has earned offers from schools like Navy, Army, and Yale. There is little doubt that Woodford will not put in the work to recover from his knee injury. In fact, you can go to his Twitter page and see his progress, but a lot of programs are going to be patient while he recovers. In the meantime, high academic programs are making headway, and rightfully so. You won’t find many running backs in the class of ’25 who run behind their pads better than Woodford. The Northeast back is a bowling ball of energy, capable of delivering a stiff arm that will plant a defender firmly into the turf. On top of being incredibly strong, Woodford has great vision, seeing cutbacks that most backs do not, and has the balance to bounce off tacklers for more yardage. The real separating factor for Woodford though is his determination to get extra yardage; just an unreal want to drive his team downfield. Woodford is set for another All-State caliber season this fall, and Northeast should be a contender for a state title if everything goes to plan. That will certainly grab the attention of FBS programs in the process.
