What makes you stand out as a future collegiate athlete?
Dedication and Commitment to improvement, the details, and the discipline it takes to be an athlete and a student at a high level. I’m grateful for the coaching and training I’ve had access to over the past few years. My position Coach at Kell, Coach Steph Brown, knows exactly what it takes and is preparing me each day for what’s coming. My Longhorn teammates are working hard – and that inspires and pushes me. Competing as a starter since my Sophomore year- with 24 starts (4 being playoff games) and 2 GA Elite Classic and 1 GACA All Star Games, gives me the experience I need entering my senior season. That translates to 51 catches for 868 yards the past two seasons, and an all Region and All State HM (by Recruit Georgia) 2022 season.
Vaka was the leading receiver for Johns Creek with just over 700 yards and 37 catches on the year. He converted over 5 touchdowns too, several which were housed for long scores. Vaka’s release off the line seems to have cornerbacks stumbling off balance not fully anticipating how quickly he can accelerate into his top speed. He has a pretty good feel reading the pass, naturally feeling out the sideline and attacking the pass. Heading into his senior year, Vaka is set to be a part of the high-powered offensive attack at Kell. With the 2024 recruits’ hands and top-end speed, we think that a 1000-yard season is likely in the fold for Vaka this season, which would put the ’24 recruit for a potential first-team All-State nod. Vaka needs to continue to become more physical coming off the line against press coverage. His route variation in 2022 was limited, and we would like the senior to have a bigger impact on intermediate passes. We fully expect that to be the case this fall, so watch out for Vaka as we expect his targets to increase a good bit in 2023.
