Nearly 800 yards last year for Watkins, which is impressive for a RB splitting carries with one of the best in the state. Watkins shows a nice burst when he gets the football. He shows a very direct running style, doing a good job of reading the defense down field and making quick cuts well before the defender is in range. What really impressed about Watkins is the urgency he shows right when the ball is snapped. He plays the game at 100%, and his overall football speed has results. I like the balance he shows on film, and he does a good job of keeping his feet moving after contact. Watkins looks like the type of back prime for a good fall his senior year. He doesn’t have outstanding break away speed in his junior film, but his ability to accelerate quickly and make quick decisions at the LOS is an impressive skill. There is no doubt barring injury that Watkins eclipse the 1000 yard marker this fall, and should earn some offers in the process. Definitely a 2019 recruit to watch out for.
