Leonard was an explosive defensive back for Callaway’s vaunted 2023 defense. The speedy DB does a really good job of accelerating to the football. That pops on film. Whether that is in the air or support against the run, Leonard is downhill creating pressure on the offense. He is physical with his hands, doing a good job jockeying for position on passes or getting off a block. Leonard is a natural at reading the flight of the pass, making several interceptions. He has pretty quick hips flipping over and staying with a receiver on deep balls. His ability to close, keep his pads parallel to the ball carrier, and make fundamentally sound tackles is impressive. Leonard is physical while tackling, and that impact makes a difference, but it’s his consistently good technique that will carry him well into college. You have to love the pursuit he shows from the backside. Plenty of high-motor plays in his highlight reel plus the toughness to get inside the tackles and help stop a runner. Leonard’s tackling over the middle of the field, and his general instincts against the pass suggest that he can play FS at the next level despite being a bit undersized. Leonard is now up to 175 lbs., we feel like he can be around 5’11” 190 at the next level, and an even more explosive
