McDermond is a smart football player who plays with his ears pinned back and his eyes wide open. Not too many fakes get by him, and he is really quick to react afterwards. His high IQ really helps make up for his lack of foot speed which is a glaring weakness. He lines up over the TE a lot, and shows nice footwork in coverage. His lateral quickness needs a good bit of work. He’s a good tackler, but his lack of foot speed makes for some bad angles. McDermond is a great academic student, and would be a perfect fit at the next a high academic school.
