What makes you stand out as a future collegiate athlete?

I am a competitor. Winning fuels me. I come to practice every day ready to work and get better. My teammates and I have an awesome relationship, and you can really see how that team chemistry translates to the field. I’m a very coachable player and love to learn the game more and more every day. We came up a touchdown short in the State Title last year, and we’re hungrier than ever this year to get over that hump. We’re going to be fun to watch this year.

After throwing for solid yardage as a sophomore, Jay Kanazawa took his game to another level in 2022 throwing for 3266 yards and 36 touchdowns. His 119.6 QBR was among the best of any QB in the lower classifications and the 2024 prospect helped his team to the Class A DII state title game. Kanazawa has continued to build up his frame and headed into his senior year he is at 185 lbs. Though he is not a run-first QB as a junior, we believe there is some untapped potential for the 2024 prospect getting out into the open field and making plays with his legs. Kanazawa is quick on his feet, making sharp reads and finding blown coverages fast. He is specifically good at lobbing the ball over the defense and leading his receivers. Moving around the pocket, Kanazawa has solid footwork and makes some tough throws on the run. He is quick to relocate and set his feet, always keeping his eyes upfield. Kanazawa has some incredible talent to throw to, but he allows his guys to make plays, and he will string out the defense to give his guys time to get open. You have to love how competitive Kanazawa is. He doesn’t give up on a play, that’s the hallmark of a great leader, and that’s everything that embolizes the senior. Kanazawa doesn’t have an elite arm to blow the lid off the defense, but he is more than capable of putting the ball on a line and hitting his receiver in stride. Excellent timing with his throws. There is a lot to like about Kanazawa, but for his recruitment to take a jump this fall, we think him being more elusive in space will certainly bolster his ranking on college recruiting boards.
