Barber has impressive athleticism with a reported 38″ vertical jump, a 4.75 40 time, and a 375 lbs. bench press, which are some elite numbers for a defensive tackle. At 6′ and 240 lbs., you wouldn’t expect metrics like that but suggests that Barber has good upside at the college level. Barber has a lightning-quick first step, and equally fast hands getting off blocks. You have to like the energy and tenacity that Barber shows at the point of attack. He gets underneath the pads of the offensive lineman and is just too quick and powerful. What I like about Barber’s film is the fact the is making these plays against good-sized offensive linemen, who are probably 40-50 lbs. heavier than him. Barber’s dominance in the middle creates a lot of negative plays for Perry. The senior has gained about 15 lbs. over the last year, but at 240, that does create a question on where he will line up at the college level. How Barber continues to fill out, and where he lines up at colleges is the big question. While having great strength and quickness, Barber might run into matchup issues playing D1 football, especially with the length of the game. He will most likely be around 260 at the college level, and considering his elite athleticism, he should overcome a smaller frame and be an impact player, especially on passing downs.
Explosive, has a nose for the ball a James Harrison type of talent that will cause a lot of problems of offenses at the next level.
