Byrd was one of the tackling leaders in the state of Georgia last year with about 140, and is one of the top returners in GA for the 2019 season. The tough minded 2020 linebacker does a really good job of playing with his eyes. He reads the play quickly and performs good tackles right at the midsection. He does a nice job of getting low on his attempts. Byrd is pretty quick to the football, but need to see more speed with his lack of size. Still, he is always around the football, and does seem to have a nose for reading the ball carrier down field and anticipating where he will make his cuts. Byrd is a strong athlete, typically when he makes a tackle the ball carrier goes down pretty quickly. Cannot deny his motor, and though he might not be the quickest out to the sideline foot speed wise, he does hustle like crazy on each play.
