Cheney has a light back pedal and does a very good job of getting his head turned around on the football. He reads the QB’s eyes and shows very good anticipation of the pass. Cheney rakes out the football and is adept at finding the catching area and disrupting the ball from being hauled in. Cheney claims a 37″ vertical jump, and that kind of explosiveness does show on film. He is a solid tackler, definitely one of the better we have seen in this recruiting class at the CB spot. Overall there is a lot to like about the athleticism of Cheney, and even if his speed is in question, which there is not a lot of deep passes he defended, then he still has open field tackling to play safety regardless. He will need to fill out his frame for sure, and it does look like needs some work rotating hips over (does need some work in the hips), but I like Cheney’s film a lot, and should get a mixture of P5 and FBS interest throughout his recruitment.
