Player Spotlight: Tyrique David QB Franklin County

Tyrique David is the most recent winner of our Play of the Day award. The elusive 2017 quarterback’s winning play came on an improbable weaving run.

Starting back at his own 15 yard line, David was in deep trouble way behind the line of scrimmage being heavily pursued by multiple East Jackson defenders. Miraculously, he was able to creatively elude them, then go streaking down the sideline, juking out a couple more would-be tacklers for a 85-yard touchdown run.

We caught up with David to hear about how his recruitment is going and what his plans are for the upcoming season.

“My goals for next season are to rush for 1600 yards and throw for at least 800 yards,” David said.

The class of 17 athlete played well last season for Franklin County as their starting QB and he models his game after a Georgia HS legend. “I honestly model my game after Cam Newton – I try to play like him in many ways.”

dafdahgrfahWatch the young athlete on film and you will see a very talented runner, especially at evading 1 v 1 tackle situations. He is adept at faking out defenders using his signature move. “My biggest strength is my in and out juke move.. I use it all the time,” David said.

One area the class of 17 athlete would like to improve is his speed, especially his initial acceleration. He is open to advice and believes that his game is just beginning to be developed.

“I think I have so much more potential. Like there’s so much more for me to learn and much much more room for my game to improve.”

At the next level he could end up playing multiple positions on the offensive side of the ball. This upcoming fall could be his last at QB if he wants to play at the next level.

“My favorite position is quarterback but I’ll play whatever they want me to play in college.”

So far, the rising senior is hearing the most from Tennessee State, The Citadel and Reinhardt. This summer, he has traveled across the south competing against top regional talent to improve his game.

“I’ve already attended Valdosta State, Georgia Southern, Western Carolina, and my next upcoming camp is July 16 at East Tennessee.”

The football season is a little over a month away and the class of 17 quarterback is looking to once again impress college coaches. With his arsenal of juke moves, along with another offseason of hardwork, David will look to land a college scholarship, as well as be a leader at Franklin County this fall.
