Player Spotlight: Eastside Linebacker Garrett Stevens

Garrett Stevens won our most recent Recruit Georgia Play of the Day on 2/25. The class of 2017 linebacker used his adept ability to recognize the play quickly, then torpedo the running back for a minimal gain.

We caught up with the rising senior to discuss his recruitment and future plans this offseason.

“In March I’m scheduled to participate in Nike’s The Opening in Atlanta and based on my summer training schedule I hope to participate in other camps before my season begins.”

CcQX7m8UYAAEEvfThe linebacker just visited UAB last Saturday, where he said that the junior day went great and was excited about the opportunity to visit. Stevens plans to visit additional schools this spring but has nothing set in stone just yet.

The middle linebacker told Recruit Georgia he has been hearing from a slew of FBS and FCS schools. “As of today I have heard from Kennesaw State University, Michigan State, Arkansas State, Coastal Carolina, Cornell University, Georgia Southern, to mention a few.”

The class of 2017 athlete has a passion for playing middle linebacker and looks up to two hardworking players. “I model my game after Jake Ganus (MLB UGA) and J.J. Watt.”

Watch the linebacker on film and you can tell he is a student of the game. He reads the play quickly and attacks the ball carrier with exuberance.

His hustle and passion for the game is showcased from play-to-play on film. Stevens looks like a true middle linebacker roaming the middle and someone who can lead a defense.

Eastside’s defensive star believes his biggest strength “is to work hard both on and off the fields, and in and out of the classroom. Also the ability to read plays and make tackles.”

One area the rising senior has focused on improving is his speed. “I need to improve on my 40 speed. I’m working with my track coach weekly to achieve this goal.”

It looks like Stevens’ Spring will be open for college visits. If you are interested in recruiting Garrett Stevens then click HERE for his Recruit Georgia profile.

This kid is something special. Underrated inside linebacker with a nose for the football. Looking at his film you can see he can detect plays before the snap of the ball. Hard hitting linebacker with great instincts. Expect a great senior season and him to gain big school attention.
