Slade received an offer from Pikeville on May 1st, making the Kentucky school his first. He explained what made Pikeville so attractive.
“I choose Pikeville because they have a great program rising for the future. I had done some research on them and their academics are pretty great.”
Leading up to his May 3rd encounter, Slade was unfamiliar with the school, but it was a conversation with a Pikeville assistant that changed his recruitment. “I had not heard from any of the coaches at all until I was called out of class. Coach Derrick Lucas and I had sat down and talked for about 30 minutes about the recruiting process and then he offered me a scholarship for academics and football to Pikeville.”
Almost a month later and Slade is still committed to Pikeville, but he is still hearing from a few schools who are showing heavy interest. With his commitment out of the way, the Class of ’17 back has big plans for the upcoming season.
“This season coming up I want to lead my team to be undefeated in our region and take them to the playoffs,” Slade said. “I also believe I will have over 1200 yards rushing with 10+ touchdowns.”
Slade says he is a player to watch this upcoming season and finished off our conversation with this final remark: “I am a sleeper athlete and it’s about time to turn some more heads!”
