Norcross senior Esimi Okosun is our top offensive lineman for Week 4. The powerful 6’4″ right tackle had a great game against North Atlanta, where he made several nasty pancake blocks, including one where he drove a defender downfield for a 10-yard ride.
No doubt about it, with games like the one against North Atlanta, Okosun makes blocking look fun out there.
“The start of my senior year has been good so far. We’re 2-1, and I feel like we’re starting to build some momentum as a team. There’s still a lot we can improve on, but I like where we’re headed, and I’m excited for what’s ahead,” Okosun said.
Over the last 20 years, Norcross has historically been one of the most competitive teams in the state, winning back-to-back state titles in 2012 and 2013, plus seven region championships during that timeframe. For Okosun, continuing that tradition and helping his team win as many games as possible is important.
“My goals for my senior year are to win as many games as possible, make a deep playoff run, and compete for a championship. Personally, I want to keep improving every week and put myself in the best position to play at the next level,” he said.
Okosun has worked hard over the last 12 months to sharpen up his game, moving from the starting TE spot over to right tackle, and it’s paying dividends. He earned the Norcross Male Athlete of the Month for August, which, truthfully, you don’t often see that honor handed out to offensive linemen, but that’s a testament to everything the 2027 blocker has been building.
“I think I’ve improved the most with my leadership, pass blocking, getting off the ball quicker, and consistency since last season. I’ve learned that as a senior, every game is an opportunity to show out, and I have to give it my all each game because once that game passes by, there’s no going back, and the games remaining get fewer, and I also learned that I have to lead by example and bring energy every day, especially when things aren’t going our way,” he said.
Mindset is a big factor on the football field, especially for offensive linemen, where being physical is instrumental to winning a matchup. The senior blocker expanded more on that topic.
“My mindset on the field is to be physical, disciplined, do my job, and do what my coach has coached me to do. I try to set the tone and keep the sideline hyped when our defense is on the field trying to get a turnover and making sure we stay locked in for all four quarters,” he said.
On the recruiting front, Okosun is open for business, looking to attract programs that want a talented young blocker who is just scratching at the surface of his potential. As for now, he doesn’t have college visits planned, but said, “I’m excited to get around different programs and see what fits me best both on and off the field.”
The powerful SR has taken a big jump over the last year, adding weight to his frame and going from a blocking tight end to a true offensive tackle, which might feel like a seamless transition on the surface, but Okosun had to refine his pass blocking, improve his footwork, all while continuing to add another 10 lbs. to his frame.
Last offseason, both FCS and DII programs expressed heavy interest in the Norcross product, and we believe they will swing back around this fall, discovering a refined blocker who is naturally adjusting to life in the trenches.
