Quick County Notes

Gwinnett County: Mill Creek plays Archer – the talented young Tigers could give Mill Creek a rough game. Norcross visits North Gwinnett in what should be the premiere in-county matchup. South Gwinnett (3-0) looks to stay hot this weekend against South Forsyth (2-1). Grayson has the week off.

Fulton County: Mays picked up a win against Peachtree Ridge in a rare matchup between APS vs Gwinnett County schools. This week, Mays takes on Hughes in a Region 5 AAAAAA opener. Grady makes a long trip to Southeast Georgia to play Ware County. Thomson, who just upset Jefferson, will visit AA Champion Pace Academy. Speaking of state champions, this Friday Roswell will host last year’s AAAAAA champs Colquitt Co, while Westlake visits last year’s AAAA champs Cartersville.

DeKalb County: Both Catholic neighbors and rivals Marist and St. Pius X meet in the annual Fish Bowl. Tucker won a 21-20 heart stopper in Colquitt County last week, making them the first Georgia school to win in Moultrie since 2012. Arabia Mountain is on the verge of being ranked in the METRO 15, a win against AAAAAA Dacula (another rare Gwinnett/DeKalb regular season match up) will help their cause immensely

Cobb County: Lassiter (3-0) continues their dominance of Kell winning last weekend’s matchup – they play o-2 Marietta this Friday. McEachern lost to Grayson last week 16-13. Grayson scored a pivotal TD by DeAngelo Gibbs but after looking at sideline video, it appears to be a touchback and a tough break for McEachern who didn’t score an offensive TD. The Indians look to get back on track against 0-3 Jonesboro. Harrison is one of the hottest teams in the state and Justin Fields looks talented enough to be mentioned with fellow junior classmates Trevor Lawrence (Cartersville) and Emory Jones (Heard Co.). The Hoyas get the week off but play Peachtree Ridge on the 16th.
